09 Sep BNA gets press as ground-breaking approaches
The Charlotte Business Journal ran an article today about the new BNA building at the Riverwalk in Rock Hill:
A Rock Hill CPA firm is planning a $3.5 million office and retail building in the Riverwalk mixed-use center in Rock Hill.
The building, which will have a view of the Catawba River, will also be the new headquarters for the 17-employee Bernard N. Ackerman CPA firm.
The firm’s president, Bernie Ackerman, says he hopes his building and another commercial building at Riverwalk will spur other commercial activity at Riverwalk.
“Riverwalk will be the apex of York County,” he says in a telephone conversation this morning. That particularly applies to his firm, which has clients in Charlotte, Fort Mill, Lancaster County and York.
“It puts us right in the middle,” he says.
Construction starts on the 18,000-square-foot building next week, and Ackerman is planning a celebration for the completion of the building on about Aug. 1, 2015. Simon & Watson Construction Inc. of Fort Mill will serve as general contractor for the facility.
Ackerman’s wife, Teri Liebowitz, is the project manager for the building.
Ackerman’s CPA firm, which ranked No. 22 on the Charlotte Business Journal’s latest list of the largest accounting firms in the Charlotte region, will occupy the top two floors of the five-story building. Space in the remaining three floors will be sold, with the possibility that the third floor will be rented to allow his firm expansion space.
Ackerman is outgrowing the firm’s 4,700-square-foot headquarters across Interstate 77 on Riverview Road at Cherry Road. That building, constructed by Ackerman in 1986, was planned for a paper-based accounting firm, making it a bit outdated.
“It was designed for paper, so we have a lot of wasted space,” he says.
The new facility, which will be called the BNA building, will be constructed alongside a 36,000-square-foot retail and residential building in Riverwalk’s River District. That four-story building will contain retail on the ground floor, with apartments on the top three floors.
The Assured Group, which is developing Riverwalk, will develop and own the structure, called the River District Building 6.
Ackerman and Assured Group are planning a joint groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 17 in Riverwalk.
