Telling a Story Through Architecture

Below are five additional projects that all tell meaningful stories and help connect the architecture to its local context.

The Tribute – Gatlinburg, Tennessee

The Story of The Tribute, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, is of The Scoundrel, as told by our Interior Design Partners, Flick Mars, headquartered in Dallas, Texas.  The Story of The Scoundrel is a convergence of local characters, those marked by the rugged poetry of this place and its history.  Characters with resilient, imperfect, and irreverent traits bring an air of intrigue to the hotel and tell the tales of the Appalachian region.  The interior and exterior design will immerse guests in the rich culture known as “our side of the mountain.”

Matthews Library – Matthews, North Carolina

ODA Architecture designed a mixed-use development in downtown Matthews, telling the story of the railroad’s impact on the history and growth of Matthews. The original train station and an actual caboose were renovated and moved to the Village Green to help announce the story. The story was also enhanced in the interior design of the library.  A trackside bay window was installed along the tracks in the children’s section as well as numerous displays that made the train heritage come to life.

Moxy – Charlotte, North Carolina

The story of the Moxy Hotel is the Queen City, a city of royalty and rebellion, as told by our Interior Design Partners, DLR, headquartered in Minneapolis/Chicago. Charlotte is a heritage and rebellion city, fostering artists, craftsmen, adventurers, and dreamers. It is a city of finance and risk. From queens to rebels to textiles and fabrication, Charlotte offers charm and style at a confluence of historical paths, stylistic individualism, and speculative industries.

The Melby – Melbourne, Florida

The Story of The Melby (Tapestry by Hilton), is the new ar-chae-ol-o-gist, as told by our Interior Design Partners, EoA, headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida. Melbourne is very eclectic and unpretentious. There are many places and things to explore, some obvious and some hidden. The story of The Melby is in finding beauty in ordinary things that aren’t so obvious…and reinterpreting the known.

Morningstar Lifestyle Storage – Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

The Story of the Morningstar Lifestyle Storage facility is told through the impact of trolley on the Low Country in the early part of the 20th Century. The architecture was inspired by the original Charleston Trolley Barn, constructed in 1897.  The electric trolleys began the golden age of local mass transit in the Low Country, as celebrated in the architecture of the Lifestyle Storage facility pictured.  There is currently momentum and local initiatives to “bring back the trolleys”.
